Help WICAT make a potting shed

Help WICAT make a potting shed

Posted on January 22, 2014 in News

WICAT’s Potting Shed Volunteering Project is starting on Saturday 25 January.

It’s a chance to be involved in the construction of a new potting shed on the Sure Start Allotment at Firth Park – and learn new joinery and construction skills, as well as the art of recycling building materials.

This is the first of eight sessions with WICAT (Women in Construction, Arts and Technology) building tutor Claudia K. She will be teaching volunteers how build onto the brick foundation a wooden structure which will transform the once derelict site into a new potting shed.

The workshop is free and for women only.

Please contact WICAT to book your place – or ring on 0114 2725360 or 07813126388.

First session: Saturday 24 January –  9.30am to 4pm/5pm

at: Women’s Construction Centre, 21 Buckenham Street, Sheffield S4 7JQ

The first session will cover

  • talking about the overall project
  • getting familiar with the plan for the construction
  • looking at the materials
  • cutting parts of the old structure into size
  • learning how to use tools

We will plan the dates for the next 1 or 2 sessions.

The Potting Shed Volunteering Project is a collaboration between the Sure Start Allotment, Heeley City Farm and WICAT.
