WICAT launches Home Maintenance courses

Posted on April 1, 2014 in News

WICAT (Women in Construction, Arts and Technology) has just launched its new and extensive home maintenance course programme at the Women’s Construction Centre in Burngreave.

There are 27 courses running between April and Autumn in:

  • Bricklaying
  • Fixing to Walls
  • Car Maintenance
  • Tiling
  • Joinery
  • Plastering
  • Plumbing
  • Painting and Decorating
  • Electrics

“The idea is that women can learn to do things for themselves. Having the skills to do those jobs that have been lying around for ages means you can save money and hopefully build the confidence to go on and do more,” said Cathy Cain, project manager at WICAT.

Sessions will run during the days on Saturdays and Sundays; and on Wednesday or Thursday evenings. For full details and to book a place, see www.wicat.org.uk

The first course in Bricklaying is on Saturday 5 April, 10am – 4pm; followed by Fixing to Walls on Wednesday 9 April, 6pm – 9pm; and Car maintenance on Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 April, 10am – 4pm.

“They are all beginners’ courses, and are taught by professional tradeswomen who have got years of experience. They are aimed at women and taught in a women-friendly environment, but men are welcome to come too,” said Cathy Cain.

All the courses are at the Women’s Construction Centre, 21 Buckenham Street, Burngreave, Sheffield S4 7JQ.
